3rd Fire in Eastern Oak Forests Conference
May 20-22, 2008

This conference is to facilitate the transfer of scientific information and the knowledge from both scientists and successful fire managers to land managers in the central hardwoods region. Presentations will include:

Tuesday, May 20th:

  • Fire Ecology of Woodlands and Barrens – John Taft, IL National History Survey
  • Fire and Fire Surrogates Study – Daniel Yaussy, USFS NRS
  • Fire and LANDIS Modeling – Stephen Shifley, USFS NRS
  • Smoke Dispersion Modeling – Gary Achtemeier, USFS SRS
  • Performance of BEHAVE Fuel Models – Robert Ziel, Michigan DNR & Matt Jolly, USFS Fire Lab
  • Fire and the Indiana Bat – Matthew Dickinson, USFS NRS
  • Climate Change and Fire in the East – Ronald Neilson, USFS PNWRS
  • Poster Session and refreshments

Wednesday, May 21st
Field Tour: 8 am – 9 pm

  1. Natural history sites – functions in forestlands and grasslands
  2. Cultural history sites
  3. Experimental sites

    Followed by a catered dinner and social event.
