Welcome to Distance Education at SIUC!

Distance Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale extends the University's intellectual and service mission beyond the physical boundaries of the campus to the regional, state, national and global community by offering departmental courses for academic credit through Distance Education. It is the intention of SIUC to provide a culturally diverse offering of credit courses through distance education systems that include synchronous and asynchronous delivery methods. These distance education courses for college academic credit extend departmental course offerings to off-campus and non-traditional as well as traditional student populations that may require alternative learning methods.

At Southern Illinois University Carbondale, the Office of Distance Education, which is located in the Division of Continuing Education, coordinates distance education courses for the campus. Distance Education courses are offered in interactive, print-based and web-based formats. Print-based (correspondence) and Web-based courses are offered by the Individualized Learning Program (ILP) and administered by the Division of Continuing Education. Web-based courses and Two-Way Interactive Video courses are offered through the Office of Distance Education. The various colleges and academic departments at SIUC also offer on-line courses.
