Kid Architecture Day Camp - Session 2
July 21 - 25, 2008
This Architecture Camp was developed to introduce young people to the design of the built environment. The workshops are sponsored by The Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the School of Architecture, and the College of Applied
Sciences and Arts, in cooperation with the Division of Continuing Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Architecture Camp Objectives:
Participants will develop an understanding of the following:
- Why buildings look the way they do.
- Why buildings stand up.
- What architects and interior designers do.
- Design drawing as a problem solving tool/method.
- The design process used by architects and interior designers.
- How a building is designed, constructed, used, and reused.
- Construction materials used in building.
- How and why people "define" space.
- New tools of design including computer graphics systems, animation and computer-aided design.
