The Young Writers Workshop is a five-day program designed to give high school sophomores, juniors and seniors the chance to explore and develop their talents in poetry and prose writing. Students will hone their writing skills by participating in daily critique sessions lead by SIU Carbondale faculty, and by attending panels, readings, and craft discussions lead by SIU creative writing faculty and graduate students.
Enrollment is limited to 30 participants. Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Take the Train! Chicagoland area registrants: the Saluki train on Amtrak departs from Chicago at 8:15 a.m. and arrives in Carbondale at 1:45 p.m. Just in time for check-in!
Overnight Camper Fee: $370
This fee includes four nights lodging, all meals, and materials. Housing is provided at SIU's Brush Towers, in air-conditioned, supervised residence halls.
Commuter Camper Fee: $320
This fee includes lunch, dinner, and materials. Commuter campers are expected to arrive at the Student Center information desk daily at 8:45 a.m. and be picked up at the Student Center information desk each evening at 9:00 p.m.
Program Requirement: The 2014 Academic Medical Release Form must be submitted to Continuing Education and Outreach prior to a camp in order for your child to attend.
Refund/Cancellation Policy: A refund, minus the $80 non-refundable deposit, will be issued upon a written request received by June 6, 2014. The University reserves the right to cancel any program. In the event of cancellation, only those pre-registered will be notified.
